The Early College High School of Emergency Medicine (EChem) is a small Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school located in the heart of Manhattan's Lower East Side. We are dedicated to preparing students for college, careers, and leadership roles in emergency medicine, healthcare, and STEM fields. As a proud member of the NYS Pathways in Technology (P-TECH) program, EChem offers students a unique Grades 9-14 experience. Students can earn both a New York State Regents Diploma and up to three tuition-free associate degrees from Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC): A.S. in Science, A.A.S. in Paramedic (includes National EMT Certification), A.S. in Public Health. Through our strong partnership with Northwell Health, New York's largest healthcare provider, students benefit from: Paid internships and job shadowing, Hospital site visits, Mentoring and career coaching, Hands-on learning with medical professionals. Students who complete the program receive priority hiring consideration from Northwell Health, launching them into meaningful healthcare careers.EChem also offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program with 10 AP courses designed to prepare students for college-level work and earn early college credit. Academic Highlights: Pre-Nursing Pathway (FutureReadyNYC Healthcare): EChem's Pre-Nursing pathway is part of the FutureReadyNYC Healthcare initiative, designed to prepare students for college-level nursing and allied health programs. Over four years, students complete a sequenced curriculum beginning with foundational health courses and anatomy and physiology before advancing to certified medical assisting coursework, including clinical and lab-based learning aimed at CMA credentialing. The pathway blends career-connected instruction, paid, hands-on learning experiences, and personalized advising, all supported by our partnerships with Northwell Health and BMCC. Through this robust sequence, students graduate with both early college credits and industry validated credentials, entering the next stage of healthcare education with confidence, Internships: students have the opportunity to receive internships with Northwell Health. 11th and 12th graders complete an up to 80-hour internship which will include tours, hands-on demonstrations, skills-based workshops, interactive career panels, and mentoring at Northwell Health. Students learn Stop the Bleed, CPR for kids and adults, shadow Nurses and other medical professionals, receive Heart Saver and AED Training, our hospitals, and go on EMS Rotations., Advanced Placement Courses: AP Seminar, AP U.S. History, AP Spanish, AP Human Geography, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Art and Design,, National Education Equity Lab: EChem offers students the opportunity to take college courses and earn college credits from universities across the country. These courses are taught by EChem staff and college professors in our classrooms. In these courses, students build the skills and confidence needed to apply to and thrive in college. Students have taken courses at Arizona State University, Stanford University, Georgetown University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Cornell University, Emergency Medical Care: This course is a training program to provide the students with the necessary basic skills and knowledge to deal with a broad spectrum of illness and injuries in the pre-hospital care phase of emergency medicine. Upon successful completion of the course, students will take the New York State Emergency Medical Technical Certification Examination. Once certified, and upon completion of certain fundamental core courses, the student will be eligible to take the advanced paramedic level courses of the program.

The Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management is a small high school in downtown Manhattan that prepares students for the college of their choice and career of their dreams through hands-on and work-based learning. Students select between two innovative career pathways in Emergency Medicine and Cyber Security. Students engage in paid internships, have preferential hiring with industry partners, receive free certification as EMTs or Security Analysts, and earn free, early college credit.
