About

Our mission is to support students in becoming competent, self-confident, and responsible global citizens who are ready to participate productively in our democratic society. As a college preparatory high school, we are committed to providing the best opportunities for academic and social growth for all of our students. In keeping with our health theme, BAHC exposes students to a variety of health professions to help them make informed career choices. BAHC is a FUTURE READY SCHOOL with a HEALTH CAREERS PATHWAY. Students in the Future Ready Program earn college credit through dual enrollment courses, participate in paid internships, and upon graduation earn certification as a Nursing Assistant and a Medical Assistant. Students may also enroll in our EMT Program and earn certification as an EMT All our students take the Mentoring in Medicine courses. BAHC students work towards receiving their Advanced Regents Diploma. All students must take three years of foreign language, four years of math, four years of science, and AP courses. Presently, BAHC is a CUNY College Now, AP for All, Peer Group Connection, Restorative Justice, and College Access for All school which allows students to have fun while earning college credits during high school. Many of our students graduate with a semester of college credit! Our students go on a variety of fun trips and overnight college trips! Our students dress for success while in school. Please visit our school website at www.bxahc.org and call for a school tour.

Art
Students engage in studio art using a modern art timeline paired with hands-on and project-based learning experiences. Each student is given the opportunity to self-select materials of choice in the studio and choose how they want to include them for each project. Activities using the elements of art and the principles of design are explored, and as the school year continues, students utilize with higher-order thinking in the art room. Each child is given multiple entry-points tailored to their individual learning modality utilizing creative art rubrics, checklists and reflection tasks to complete self-assessments. The needs of the whole child is considered and artwork explorations allow every child to find success, building upon the skills they already have. Some children need additional time to build upon their imaginative ideas so our art studio includes puzzles and games, toys and an extensive arts library designed with student needs in mind. Topics range from graffiti art projects to hands-on learning labs as well as the study of historical time periods, movements and individual artists. Three essential questions guide student objectives, focusing on how artists produce works: from imagination, memory or observation. Teaching artists visit throughout the year to implement mural projects as well as a Saturday course offering that focuses on wall murals throughout the building. Students share an extreme sense of pride when their work is seen by our school community!
