At the High School for Law and Public Service, we believe in the power of community. Parents, caregivers, and staff are integral to our mission of providing students with opportunities to become invested in their communities. Through service learning, internships, mentoring programs, and partnerships, our students are able to apply their academic knowledge to real-life settings. They also develop important life skills such as community building and conflict resolution through Restorative Justice practices led by students. Our RJ students focus on building strong and healthy relationships, working in circles to improve gender, racial and socio-economic equity. Our students are provided with Advanced Placement Courses, a Law Program with a state-of-the-art courtroom, a diversity of clubs, and an NJROTC program. Additionally, we partner with Dominican Writers, People Theaters Program, Justice Resource Center, Dominicanos USA (DUSA), District Attorneys Office, and Dream Squad to enhance their learning experiences.

Art
The art program at the High School for Law and Public Service seeks to provide all students with the time, space, and support to learn what it means to be an artist. We embrace a vision of art education as an integral part of a student's core education. We, therefore, provide students with rich opportunities to express themselves artistically through a variety of media or performances, to explore career opportunities available in the art world, and to learn about art history and the role that art plays in cultures throughout the world. This develops their understanding of how art is related to all forms of expression and is connected to other subjects of study. We offer studio visual arts and a theater course, as well as a competitive improvisational theater team. We also provide arts engagement in several robust afterschool clubs, including spoken word, theater, vocal and media arts. Additionally, students study how policies and inequality affect people like them and showcase their opinions through the arts: posters, short videos, murals, and performances.

At the High School for Law and Public Service, teachers, administrators, parents and caregivers work together to develop mature citizens committed to their community and high achievement. Our graduates have experience in and knowledge of the public sector, law and have the ability to make positive change in the community. Internships, mentoring programs, and partnerships offer our students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to real-life settings.
