About
The Women's Academy of Excellence (WAE) is a small all-girls public high school in the Bronx serving grades 9-12. Our mission is to create a nurturing and empowering community of lifelong learners where young women develop intellectual curiosity, creativity, and confidence to lead with purpose in college, career, and life. Guided by our LEADS mission- Leadership, Empowerment, Academic Excellence, Dedication, and Sisterhood. WAE fosters a culture where scholars thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We offer a rigorous, inquiry-based, and culturally responsive curriculum focused on literacy, civic responsibility, and real-world readiness. Emphasis is placed on math, science, business, healthcare, and leadership development, preparing students to become advocates for equity and education. As a proud member of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) and FutureReadyNYC initiatives, WAE offers a robust Finance & Business Management pathway. 9th and 10th graders explore careers and build foundational skills. 10th graders apply for paid apprenticeships in finance, tech, and business. Current apprentices work with leading organizations such as the NYC DOE, JP Morgan Chase, Memorial Sloan Kettering, DYCD, NYC Department of Law, and the Mayor's Office, proving that WAE scholars are not just career-ready, but already making an impact. We also partner with Montefiore Hospital for healthcare career exposure and with Monroe College and the National Education Equity Lab to offer college-level courses from Ivy League and HBCU institutions. Our students grow into leaders through entrepreneurship, student government, civic engagement, and community service - living out our school motto every day: "Empowered Women Empower!"
