About
The Women's Academy of Excellence is an all-girls public high school, serving grades 9-12. Our mission is to create a community of lifelong learners, to nurture the intellectual curiosity and creativity of the scholars, and to empower them as young women. The school seeks to cultivate a dynamic, participatory learning environment that enables scholars to achieve academic success on various levels, specifically in the fields of math, science, and civic responsibility. The scholars are exposed to a challenging curriculum that supports them in becoming college and career ready. The young ladies are encouraged to become leaders within their communities and to use their voices to be ambassadors for the education of women and girls. The school is a part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA). The CRMYA program offers our students the opportunity to obtain work experience in various businesses throughout New York City. The program starts in the ninth grade with a comprehensive Career Exploration curriculum. In the tenth grade, the scholars continue to explore various careers and are taught valuable interviewing skills. In the spring of their 10th grade year, the scholars are given the opportunity to apply for apprenticeships with participating companies and organizations in areas of technology, finance, and business, which allows them to earn while they learn. In addition to CRMYA, the school has a partnership with Montefiore Hospital for girls in their junior year who are interested in the medical field. WAE is also proud to have a Presidential Partnership with Monroe College. College level courses are also offered with various schools across the country including Ivy League and Historically Black College in partnership with the National Education Equity Lab Our motto is: EMPOWERED WOMEN EMPOWER! We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school.
