Humanities & Interdisciplinary

FDA Dual Enrollment/Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take college courses simultaneously while in high school. Through our partnerships with SUNY Old Westbury and Syracuse University, students in the FDA Dual Enrollment/Advanced Placement Program begin their course work in Grade 9 with AP African American Studies. As they progress, students will have advanced class choices from Gender Studies with Syracuse University to Black Studies with SUNY Old Westbury. In addition, we offer students accepted to the FDA Dual Enrollment/Advanced Placement Program courses with the College Board in AP Psychology and AP World History among others.

About the School

The Frederick Douglass Academy is a screened college preparatory school located in north Harlem. We are tremendously successful at sending students to top colleges throughout the country. High expectations and a challenging, rigorous curriculum are at the core of our mission; to equip students with the necessary tools and skills to become standouts in college and beyond. In our competitive school environment, each student is given an opportunity to select and attend one of our two academies within our school based on their individual interests.

Academic Highlights: Letterman Sports: provides students the opportunity to take an elective in Fitness Training and Nutrition each year of matriculation, Taekwondo: students can receive full national designation and recognition as a Black Belt upon completion of the four year elective and mastery in the discipline as determined by the Taekwondo Federation.
