About

Millennium Art Academy is a small, award-winning high school dedicated to fostering education through the arts. The students see multiple Broadway shows and visit art museums throughout the city. The school's exceptional visual and theater arts programs help students develop creatively, emotionally, and intellectually. Students learn by doing, exploring, discovering, connecting, creating, discussing, debating, writing, revising, and sharing. Faculty and visiting artists work together, along with our school's nurturing support team, to provide students with the tools needed to become confident, morally responsible adults. Emphasis is placed on teaching students to be accountable for their learning choices, and actions. Millennium staff expect a strong collaboration with families through weekly family phone check-ins and routine in-person roundtable discussions with teachers, administrators and students.

Art
Millennium Art Academy High School offers required art studios in both ninth and tenth grades, beginning with Art Foundation. More advanced work is taught in upper grades, aligned with other disciplines, English language arts and history. In Advanced Placement Art, students work on developing their personal style. We offer afterschool visual arts, theater and dance clubs and numerous field trips to New York City museums. Our students enter various city:community:national competitions and attend arts programs outside the building. Competitions we have won: National Scholastic Art, PS Art, Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Competition, Bronx Borough Arts Festival, Congressional Art, ArtsConnection and Bronx Museum online exhibitions. Our students' artwork hangs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the US Capitol in Washington, DC, and other venues, including online. We have participated in selective citywide arts programs, including Judiciary and the Arts. Our students have interned at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bronx Museum, Museum of Art and Design and through FreeArts NYC. Our award-winning visual arts students have appeared on the local Bronx Talk and News 12 broadcasts, as well as NY1 and Univision Networks. The lead arts teacher recently wrote a grant and received $500,000 in Reso-A funding, through which we renovated the two art studios with state-of-the-art furniture quite conducive to artmaking! We also recently installed Smart Boards in every classroom in the school.
