About

The High School for Language and Diplomacy (LAD) offers a college-preparatory education. Our college preparatory pathway offers a four-year sequence including Advanced Placement Classes including AP Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science, AP Chemistry, AP English Language and AP English Literature, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP US Government and Politics. We offer Mandarin and Spanish as our World Language options. As a Future Ready School, our Marketing and Entrepreneurship pathway program engages students in career-connected and college preparatory courses including Career Awareness (open to all LAD students), Computer Applications, AP Computer Science, Marketing, Personal Finance, and Virtual Enterprise, as well as opportunities for mentorships, paid internships and job shadow experiences. HSLAD provides Advisory to all students. All entering students are matched to an advisor and an advisory group that they stay with throughout their four years of high school. The advisor serves as the academic point person for each student and their family. Participation in community service is also an expectation and a component of Advisory, and advisory groups. Advisories complete one or more collective community service projects throughout their 4 years together. Students engage in restorative justice circles in advisory and have the opportunity to participate in the DREAM Peer Mediation Program. Incoming freshman also participate in a series of preparatory workshops for advance studies in advisory. All students work with the College Advisor on career and college preparation activities during advisory. The High School for Language and Diplomacy encourages student leadership through Student Government, Advisory Leaders, Peer Group Mentoring (PGC), National Honor Society, Student-led Peer Tutoring Program, Student Equity Team, Student Publications – Ladirature, School Leadership Team, Student-led Parent Teacher Conferences, and student-led heritage celebrations. Our many student club activities include Gaming, Anime, Film, Drama, Dance, Media & Arts and Educators Rising (a teacher preparation program for high school students). These club activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom and offer students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context. Annual school wide activities include PGC Potluck Day, school wide ice-skating trip, talent show, Broadway shows, staff vs. student tournaments (volleyball, dodge ball, basketball), school spirit weeks, cultural heritage celebrations, and school wide community service events. Campus-wide PSAL sports teams include: Girls JV and Varsity Volleyball, Boys Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Baseball, Girls Varsity Softball, Boys Varsity Volleyball, and Coed Varsity Handball.
