About the School
Beginning in the Fall of 2024, IAM is the only grades 9 - 14 Pathways to Technology Early College school located in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Incoming grade 9 students will start on the track to earn one of the 75 competitive spots in the IAM P-TECH program, where students can earn their associate degree (AAS) from City Tech. Students will be dual enrolled at the high school and at CUNY City Tech. Additionally, students will also be participating in our associated career track which includes mentoring, workplace challenges and internship opportunities for all students in the IAM P-TECH program. We offer a competitive and rigorous academic program, including college courses offered in partnership with: Howard, ASU, Wesleyan and Morehouse through our partnership with the National Education Equity Lab; Borough of Manhattan Community College; and Advanced Placement Opportunities through College Board and APforAll. Over their four years of enrollment in IAM, students have an opportunity to earn over 40 college credits. Our career offerings are equally as diverse and rigorous. * Entrepreneurship: Starting in grade 9, students participate in a year-long entrepreneurship program where they develop their own real business and pitch it to investors for future funding. *Computer Science: Students also have access to courses in computer science, specifically computational media with Java Script and Python that will lead to courses in Interactive Web. *Urban Farming: IAM students can also participate in our emerging urban farming program, where students learn about sustainability and develop solutions to food shortages. * Advertising and Media: As a state approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, students will have the opportunity to earn a CTE endorsed diploma certifying that they have the skills and knowledge needed to be competitive candidates in the world of advertising and media. Students earn certifications in various Adobe products as well as develop skills in graphic communications. We have an extensive paid internship and stipend workplace learning program where over 60% of our students participate in paid opportunities every year. We are the only school on the Canarsie Educational Campus to participate in Future Ready NYC and Career Ready Modern Youth Apprenticeship programs. We also offer a full Career Ready Summer Youth Employment Program which is exclusive to IAM students. In order to help students manage the expectations of our career and college opportunities, we have an well-developed socio-emotional support program. This program includes a full-time social worker and guidance department, academic supports through in-class and after-school tutoring, additional career and college readiness development through our seminar program, and other opportunities through our partnerships with various community based organizations. We want to make sure that every one of our students has access to a personalized, relevant and engaging experience at IAM. All of our courses and opportunities are structured to spark interest in our students.
