It Takes A Village Academy (ITAVA) is committed to ensuring that all students graduate with the academic, social and technological skills necessary to achieve college and career success. In keeping with our five core values communication, character, critical thinking, citizenship and care - all students become proficient in 21st Century skills and participate in SEL and leadership activities focused on character development, Restorative Practices, Mindset shift, College and Career Access and Community Building. Our diverse student and staff population ensures that we celebrate culture and embed culturally-responsive practices into daily instruction. All ITAVA students receive Career-Connected instruction and Work-Based Learning opportunities. Our students have the opportunity to earn College Credits through our partnership with Kingsborough College, as well as receive Individualized Advising and participate in Financial Literacy classes. Our school is a FutureReady NYC school offering the best of college and career exploration featuring preparation in Computer Science and Technology (Cybersecurity Analyst). This is one of the fastest growing industries in our city. Our students have the opportunity to join 21 competitive PSAL Sports teams during the year. We offer after school clubs including Art, Media, Robotics, Cosmetology, Book Club, MBK, and MSK. We are a designated Immigrant Ambassador school which allows us to support our diverse Multi- lingual population of students and families academically, socially and emotionally. We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school.

Art
The theater arts program at It Takes a Village Academy is focused on student exploration of artistic expression, community, and communication. Students use studio art for self expression. Goals: Through classes students will gain knowledge and experience in the arts while strengthening their communication skills and building upon school culture. Future plan: Students attend performances (i.e., Broadway, off Broadway, etc.); inviting groups to perform for our students; and providing teaching artist workshops for students and parents.

Health Professions

Our program focuses on training students in Computer Science and Technology Applications, Cybersecurity and technical skills. It’s designed to prepare students for college and career readiness. This program allows for analysts to work with writing code, and understanding JavaScript, Python and Cisco. Students engage in creative, problem- solving and critical thinking skills. This program prepares our students for success in college and career.
