We are a family friendly, dual-mission high school providing talented students CITYWIDE with a strong curriculum in both their academic subjects, as well as visual arts, drama, dance, vocal music, band, and orchestral music. Our scholar-artists are provided a safe environment to explore their academic, artistic, and social growth. Along with their artistic studies, students are prepared for high academic achievement through college preparatory and Advanced Placement courses. Students are provided with multiple daily studio classes in their talent area, designed to prepare them for top liberal arts, fine arts and performing arts colleges, and help them develop the discipline to be well-rounded students and future professionals. Situated in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn, we offer the opportunity to access the rich cultural vibrancy of the New York City arts community.

Art
Brooklyn High School of the Arts is Brooklyn's official arts school. A District 15 school located in downtown Brooklyn, it is the only fully screened arts school in the borough. The intensive arts curriculum prepares students for conservatory and higher education programs, as well as careers in the arts. It boasts one of the most accomplished performing and visual arts programs in the New York City. The vocal/instrumental music program ranks among the finest in New York and achieves top scores while performing at the highest level at state and city-wide competitions annually. The visual arts program routinely wins major distinctions and has been featured in galleries across the country. It is a pipeline to major visual arts programs at universities here in New York and nationally. The dance program features the finest instructors in New York City and supports dance students in receiving scholarships to college. The spring dance concerts are highlights to the entire community. The theater department features three main-stage productions and several smaller performances every year. They are regularly featured in the Schubert Theater Festival on Broadway. Students may also pursue musical or technical theater. As one of the "Exploring the Arts/Tony Bennett" partner schools, Exploring the Arts (ETA) provides students with many opportunities for real world internships and professional residencies in the arts. Students graduate with a New York City Arts Endorsed Diploma along with their Regents and Advanced Regents.

Performing Arts

Students pursue a rigorous program of solo and ensemble playing as well as studying basic music theory and music history. Students have the opportunity to work closely with top professional musicians in the New York scene through our various partnerships. Classical, contemporary and "pop" literature, as well as world music, is studied and performed. Offerings include String Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Guitar, and Digital Music, as well as Music Theory and Composition courses.
