About

WHSAT exposes students to content that is fresh, exciting and fosters creativity. Our partnerships with community organizations, colleges and the tech sector, provide students with a pipeline to enter the technology industry after graduation. All students have access to college-credit bearing courses, as well as electives including web-design, visual arts and software engineering. Our curriculum is project-based and encourages choice and independence. Students graduate with the confidence to address complex problems in this digital age. We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school. Art
At the Williamsburg High School for Art and Technology, the arts are infused into all aspects of academic and afterschool programming. Students engage in creative projects like data visualization in math classes, web and game design in computer science classes, and create posters and brochures in social studies, English language arts, and science courses. Extracurricular activities include Photography Club, Music Club, Fashion Club, Step Team, and Creative Writing Club, which publishes an annual literary magazine and hosts open mic events. During the school day, studio visual arts classes introduce students to a wide array of media and methods including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, and animation. Students practice studio skills and habits, learn to plan projects and solve problems creatively, express themselves through their artwork, and learn about art history and contemporary art. This year, we planned and hosted our first annual arts festival, which brought together teachers, students, and their families for events including performances, art galleries, and arts awards. Next year, we plan to expand visual arts course offerings to include a portfolio prep class, giving students interested in applying to post-secondary arts programs an opportunity to develop and refine their work. We will also continue growing the arts festival to include more opportunities for family and community engagement.
