Bronx Academy for Software Engineering (BASE) (X18A)
Computer Science & Technology

All BASE students take four years of computer science, learning programming languages like HTML5, Javascript, and Java. Students use Design Thinking, a human-centered problem-solving approach to solve real-world problems. Seniors do a capstone project where they use skills from across disciplines to address a problem in their community. BASE students participate in citywide hackathons sponsored by groups like Code/Interactive and Forbes, and have had internships at SCENYC, Alvin Ailey, and Gilt.

About the School

BASE is a CTE high school focusing on computer science and social justice. Courses such as Mobile App Design use the tools of software engineering to focus on real-world problem solving. Internships with industry partners give students experience with cutting-edge technology. Seminar classes help students make connections across their academic classes, get to know each other, and develop post-graduation plans. BASE offers an early college and career program with Bronx Community College in cybersecurity to students, with college classes beginning in 11th grade. BASE graduates are prepared to develop their skills in college, enter the software industry as programmers or website designers, and understand and help the communities they live in.
