Art
The arts program at Bronx Bridges High School centers upon the discipline of visual arts. The visual arts curriculum spans grades nine through twelve and is aligned with English Language Arts vocabulary protocols and discussion techniques. There is a large emphasis on using scaffolds to teach students the fundamentals of art and design in English, as 79.5% of our students are English Language Learners (ELL). One component of our arts program incorporated digital platforms to teach students the elements of art and principles of design, as well as computer art and graphic design. Students used platforms such as Autodraw and Kleki.com to create digital drawings. Students used Adobe Spark, Google Sites and Canva.com to create graphic works such as logos and websites. Students also investigated drawing, illustration, painting, and sculpture. Students created a ceramic relief mural around the topic of climate change. There is an emphasis on social-emotional learning, using the Mood Meter to discuss student feelings as well as the mood in artworks. Through our arts grant, students explored a variety of printmaking techniques.
