Fort Hamilton High School is located in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. It is the largest comprehensive, urban high school in a suburban setting. Fort Hamilton High School holds a prominent place on the shore by the Narrows, between Brooklyn and Staten Island. The school, together with the adjacent athletic field, occupies four square blocks. It was built in Georgian architectural style and is truly the "jewel in the crown" of Bay Ridge. There are currently 4,100 students on register. Comprised of multi-culturally diverse groups, with students from 64 different countries, our school is referred to as a "mini-United Nations." Striving for excellence is the ongoing mission of the Fort Hamilton High School family. Daily, our administrative and teaching staff prepare students to meet the academic challenges of New York City and the New York State Education Departments performance standards and assessments. In addition, we have aligned the curriculum with the Next Generation Standards. As educators, we engage students with a variety of learning choices and opportunities to assist them in becoming productive citizens of the 21st century. In addition to a large, comprehensive athletic department, our performing arts department (dance, drama, instrumental, and vocal) is known throughout the Bay Ridge community as well as city-wide. The Marching Band is in demand at parades and other New York City events, and our various instrumental groups continue to excel in all categories at various competitions throughout the year.
