About

Clara Barton High School for Health Professions has been preparing students for careers in the health industry since 1939. Located in the historic district of Crown Heights, Clara Barton High School offers students the chance to graduate with state certification in one of six entry-level health careers and exposure to four additional advanced career fields, along with their diploma. Students graduate college-ready with a Career and Technical Education (CTE) endorsement in majors such as Practical Nursing (LPN), Medical Assisting, Nursing Assisting, Dental Assisting, Dental Lab Technology, Vision Technology, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Beyond health careers, students can also focus on business and finance, civics and pre-law, sports management, technology, or one of our health career majors. Additionally, students can participate in the rigorous Gateway Honors for Pre-College Education program. We offer a specialized bilingual program in Haitian-Creole and provide comprehensive related and instructional support services as outlined in students individualized education plans (IEPs). For students requiring alternate assessments, we offer a challenging life skills and work-based ACES program. We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school.

Art
Clara Barton High School's Arts programs include courses in visual arts, drawing, ceramics, music, and photography. All Clara Barton students are required to take one term of music or visual arts. Students are then encouraged to take one of our elective Arts classes. This year we were able to offer a photography class based on a grant received and cameras provided to our students. We offer an intro to music class, intro to art class, ceramics, photography, drawing and studio art. We also offer a ceramics club and afterschool art opportunities. Looking forward to the 2024- 2025 school year we are planning Art walks, a music concert and Opening Act theater show. Many students were entered into competitions, contests and exhibitions. Many of the students had their work displayed for public viewing at events. Some of our students are involved in Opening Act, a theater company that teaches students interested in acting and show production. Each year Opening Act creates a play and preforms the show at our school. Students are given an opportunity to participate in an on Broadway show from Opening Act. Opening Act has been with us for 20 years now and going strong. We are constantly looking for expansion of the Arts at Clara Barton High School are excited for the next school year with many new Arts related activities, and opportunities.
