About
Founded in 1996, TYWLS Manhattan was the very first school in a groundbreaking network of all-girls college prep public schools. Our model, replicated in the five boroughs and beyond, focuses on the whole girl. We strive to instill in our students a positive self-image, a sense of community responsibility, effective communication skills, and leadership habits. This approach equips students to not only excel academically but also to embrace productive struggle as a springboard for growth building the confidence to thrive in college and beyond. TYWLS students graduate from college at a rate 4 times higher than their peers and go on to successful careers in a variety of fields. TYWLS has a 100% graduation rate, with many students graduating with advanced Regents diplomas, having already earned college credit through qualifying AP, College Now, and CLEP scores. Our graduates frequently win prestigious full-tuition scholarships like Questbridge and Posse, and in 2024 the senior class received more than 3 million dollars in college scholarship and aid. Additionally, nearly all students are considered "College Ready" in English and Math by their junior year. TYWLS school culture supports this rigorous learning through Advisory, restorative justice and equity teams, after-school tutoring, and active parent partnerships. A faculty deep in experienced educators dedicated to the school and to refining their teaching methods keeps learning engaging, while a variety of clubs and activities offer opportunities for kids to engage with the outside world and their passion projects. Partnerships with organizations like the Student Leadership Network and CollegeBound Initiative provide access to professional networks, leadership training, and a dedicated in-house CBI college counselor who guides students through the application process. Originally named TYWLS East Harlem, our school was renamed TYWLS Manhattan when increased enrollment required us to be re-sited to West 102nd Street. The move reflects our growth and unwavering commitment to empowering young women and providing a community that ignites girls potential to become leaders who change the world.
