Art
The arts have always played a significant role in the life of our school. We have an extensive Advanced Placement 2-D Arts Program that offers students of all languages a chance to express themselves and earn college credit. We have two staff members in the Visual Arts Program, increasing the number of arts courses to serve half the school during any given semester. In addition to introductory art courses and Edgenuity courses, art is integrated into the general classes. Lincoln Center Theater has been a valuable partner in offering in-house theater residencies to our English Language Learners (ELL), providing them the opportunity to find their voice, learn English and gain confidence through theater activities. We have had the opportunity to provide students access to Broadway shows, Ballet Hispanico and visit museums throughout New York City. We continue our photography programs with Magic Box Productions, Inc. We have partnered with Abrons Center for the Arts to include music classes in our program. We are hoping to hire a full-time music instructor to expand student course options. One of our arts teachers partnered with the Guggenheim Museum to give students a workshop opportunity at the museum. Students produce talent shows, cultural celebrations, and art and photography exhibitions. As always, our goal is to expose our students to culture through the arts and provide them with opportunities to which they might not ordinarily have access.
