Humanities & Interdisciplinary
Intensive Academic Humanities A humanities-based approach to excellence in all subjects, achieved through extensive literature & writing courses, advanced courses in all subjects including, modern & classical languages, computer science, research, & a required Queens College Humanities Seminar. Special Education THHS offers an inclusive program for eligible students with disabilities. IEP supports for qualified students in a rigorous academic environment where all courses are AP & honors level.

About the School
Townsend Harris is an academically selective high school that is recognized nationally as a model of secondary education. The culturally diverse student body comprises approximately 1,300 individuals who have demonstrated evidence of high academic motivation and achievement. Our program emphasizes mastery in the humanities, mathematics, science, and classics, and requires of our students the leadership skills, discipline, and work ethic expected by the most demanding colleges and careers. Academic Highlights: All students study two years of Classical Greek or Latin in addition to a modern language (Spanish, French, Japanese)., Seniors take 12 tuition-free college credits at Queens College including 2 electives and 2 semesters of Humanities Seminar., We offer Beginning Strings, Chamber Strings, Strings Ensemble, Symphonic Strings, Intro to Modern Band, Advanced Modern Band, Music Production, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Theater Tech, Vocal Training, Chorus, Piano, Graphic Arts, Media Arts, AP Classes, Studio Art, Communication with a Camera, Yearbook Design and Film Production., All courses are honors, Advanced Placement, or college-level. Our humanities-focused curriculum includes a freshman Writing Process course and we offer advanced research courses.
