About
At the historic Boys and Girls High School, our school's mission is to develop in each student the necessary skills to acquire and apply knowledge by providing a social, emotional and physical environment that is nurturing, supportive and intellectually challenging and conducive to learning for all students. Our goal is to prepare students to achieve their full potential, make positive choices, and have a plan for life after high school. We believe students achieve success and embrace learning when they feel safe and are supported by competent and caring adults, therefore we make sure students are provided a safe environment where everyone feels secured to engage in the learning process. At Boys and Girls High School, we nurture our students in their social and academic development by providing them with high quality instruction regardless if they are special needs and or ENL. Furthermore, we have worked diligently to establish a positive relationship with families and our community. Our Boys and Girls High School Family Resource Center and Food Pantry, has enabled us to address food insecurities in our community and provide food, clothes, and laundry services to families. To enhance student attendance, we opened the BGHS Breakfast Bar where students have access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy food options. Enhancing communication with families has also allowed the school to address the growing needs of our community. Students at Boys and Girls High School are also prepared for post-secondary studies and career pathways. Our CTE programs in electrical engineering, computer programming, and architectural drafting are state approved. We are also in year 2 of HVAC and a partnering school with the Brooklyn STEAM Center at the Brooklyn Navy yard.
