Law & Government
The Law and Legal Studies program prepares students for a legal career by providing in-depth content on criminal and civil law, criminology, Constitutional law, and policing and reform movements, while developing studentsâ research, writing and presentation skills for college and beyond. Classes also involve realistic role playing as attorneys and witnesses in our own state of the art courtroom, conducting hearings, engaging in plea bargain negotiations, or conducting trials. Our students compete in the city, state, national and international mock trial, moot court and civics competitions. Students take advantage of frequent contacts with Federal and State court judges and personnel, summer internships, and our special partnership with Georgetown University Law School that guides and mentors students interested in becoming attorneys all the way through college. Whether your plans are to enroll in a four-year university or a law enforcement or legal training program this Academy provides students with the academic background and workplace exposure needed for success.
