Visual Art & Design
This program exposes students to computer graphics, painting, digital and black and white photography, illustration, graphic design and video production. Students are prepared for internships and the skills needed for completing a college admissions portfolio. There is a photography lab on school premises. Students collaborate with professional artists, exhibit their work at museums and attend workshops at FIT, Parsons, Copper Union, PRATT, School of Visual Arts, and New York City Tech.

About the School
HSFI has it all-rigorous academic classes; cutting-edge programs in Fashion Design, Business, Software Design, Illustration, Graphics, and Photography; and a multi-million-dollar school-based health center where students receive free medical and dental care. HSFI excels at guiding students through the college application and financial aid process with College access classes given during the school day, a full-time College counselor, and current HSFI students and alumni trained as college counselors to support their peers. HSFI provides students with hands-on experience with NYC companies in the fashion, business, and design worlds through our Corporate Advisory Board and industry partnerships. We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school.
Academic Highlights: Our CTE programs are industry-recognized and state certified; Commercial Arts and Illustration (NYSED-Approved), Fashion Design (NYSED-Approved), Fashion Merchandising/Marketing (NYSED-Approved), Visual and Fashion Merchandising (NYSED-Approved). All our major programs have annual showcases, including our Fashion Show, Senior Art Show, & Visual Merchandising Holiday Window Unveiling., FutureReadyNYC: Technology (Software Developer), Through our corporate Board, HSFI has an Industry Partnership Program that provides students real-world business experiences. Our industry partners include Barneys, Kleinfeld Bridal, ADIDAS, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Swarovski, and the International Center of Photography., HSFI partners with the Yale University Center for Emotional Intelligence and community-based organizations such as Long Island University, Teen Choice, Partnership with Children, Relationship Abuse Prevention Program, and SPARK to develop students' social-emotional skills to handle teenage stress. Students participate in Emotion and Equity classes to help build strong bonds within the school community, celebrate individual diversity, and nurture social-emotional development alongside academic growth. Study Abroad in Florence, Italy, with the opportunity to earn college credits through SUNY.
